Chester G. Spangler's folks were Charles (Charlie) & Pearl Spangler.
Rest of family were Earl, Melvin, Don, Shirley, Paul, Mary Ruth, & Carol.  Moved from Verda to Black Mountain/Kenvir, Fisher rd/Official Hollow, in  1949 and lived in the area until the 60s. Currently lives in the Washington, D.C. area.

Ms. Bates 1st grade class somewhere around early 50s.
Please help with any names you may know.

Glenn, I have enclosed a picture of my second grade class at Black Mountain (1954-55).
 Mary Somers was the teacher.  Unfortunately, I missed the picture taking.
 Several of us are trying to identify everyone.
The following is a list of names by row that I have:

                    Chester, this is my favorite picture posted on this web site. There must have
                   been two 2nd-grade classes that year because the kids in your picture are the
                   same ones I went to school with for 11 years. My mother had an 8 x 10 picture
                   with me on those same steps. I remember Freddie "Peanut" Lockhart, Elaine
                   Cassell, Donald Bailey, and Donald Laws were in my picture. My mother
                   inadvertently tossed my picture many years ago. If anyone has a copy,
                   please post it. I'm sure the second half of this group would love to see it too. I
                   recognize many in your picture, most you have identified. Two that you do not
                   have last names attached are the Monhollen twins Jack & Charles. Charles is
                   standing between Sherry Pressley and Ann Fuson. Jack is between Benny &
                   Arlie Thomas. If I remember correctly, one of the twins was held back a grade
                   at some point and their mother would not let one advance without the other.
                   That's the reason that later they were both a year behind the rest of us. I ran
                   into Barbara Hale in Sidney, Ohio recently. I was in Sidney because my
                   mother had passed away and Barbara came to the visitation. She is still
                   lovely. I last saw Ann Fuson when I attended the Evarts HS reunion a few years
                   ago. Anne is still as beautiful and sweet as ever. Chester, I really like your idea
                   of posting up-to-date pictures of the "kids" in your photograph. I'll be checking
